Evaluation Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

A lot of different real media products gave me the ideas and conventions that I used to create my music video. I obviously used the real ‘Lazy Song’ music video, as well as the cover version that I used to give an idea on what others do with the song. The original video gave me the ideas of keeping the video fun and full and weird and random elements, such as the changing hats and costumes since Bruno Mars uses people dressed in gorilla suits. Because I don’t have any gorilla costumes, I developed this convention to suit what sort of things I did have available, such as the morph suit. The cover video by Alex Goot gave me some good camera angles to use when focusing on my lead singer and the instruments as they were being played.
In my video analysis for Linkin Park’s music video ‘Numb’ I stated that there was little use of colour to show the little hope and joy that the character had left inside of her, so I took that and reversed it for my video as my video is about a teenage lad, who is weird and just has fun so the video uses a lot of colourful backgrounds and mise en scene to reflect this. Even in the scene where he is playing a game on the TV, I ensured that he was on a colourful level, with a gun that was a different colour. I also used a convention from the music video for ‘Bring me to life’. In my analysis, I said that the actions were illustrative of the lyrics, so I tried to keep all scenes in my video related to what was being sung at the time.
